Gin is no longer just a strong spirit mixed with tonic and a slice of lemon. The development of gin has gone from strength to strength so to say in the recent couple of years. Not just an option behind a bar, there are now exclusive gin bars, open house distilleries and opening in Winchester on the 6th of October, Blend Academy where you can make your own gin!
Blend Academy is owned by the innovative Winchester Distilleries who craft small-batch premium gins. The gin making sessions last 2.5 to 3 hours and you’ll receive a 700ml bottle of gin. Blend Academy, situated in Middle Brook Street, is a generous boost to the Winchester regeneration scheme.
Hampshire Dry Gin
‘Classic style ‘fine’ dry gin is rich in Macedonian juniper and distilled slowly in our traditional pot still. Two of the six botanicals – fresh lemon and lime peel – are vapour-infused in a basket above the boiling alcohol to keep their flavours fresh for a bright, zesty finish. ‘
‘The watercress adds sweet herbaceous notes and a peppery sparkle to the finish that lifts a gin and tonic to new heights. ‘
Winchester Dry Gin
‘Winchester Dry Gin uses 25 medieval botanicals commonly used in food and medicine in the period; one for each Knight seated at the table with King Arthur himself on the throne at the head of the table represented by Juniper. ‘
