A bespoke things to do on a three night stay guide, handpicked for Mrs H, from USA whose interests include “gardens and gardening, naval and sea stuff”.

Arrival day:

Unpack and settle into accommodation.

Enjoy dinner in a traditional English pub, we recommend The Old Vine on Great Minister Street

Day One:

Healthy breakfast at Rawberry cafe.

Catch the train down to Portsmouth Harbour to visit the Historic Dockyards (the dockyard is around 100 yards from the station) where you will find Nelson’s Victory, HMS Warrior and the Mary Rose amongst other things (we recommend buying your tickets in advance online to save time once there). Also found there is The Porter’s Garden, a garden recreated on the original 1754 site in the Historic Dockyard.

Head back to Winchester for dinner in the courtyard of Loch Fyne restaurant on Jewry Street. The restaurant building dates back to 1509.
