Winchester Cathedral
You can just see from the outside how romantic this building is with the beautiful Gothic facade. It’s simply a stunning structure with some equally beautiful grounds to stroll around or picnic in if the weather is good. The views from the top of the tower are well worth the walk up the steps…just maybe give this bit a miss if you’re terrified of heights!
Keats Walk
In 1819 Keats’ stayed in Winchester and would walk the city daily using a book called “An Historical Account of Winchester”. Although the city has obviously changed in the intervening 200 years, you can still walk the same path Keats did. The round route is approximately 2 miles passing through the landscape which inspired his famous ode ‘To Autumn’.

Jane Austin Trail
The author Jane Austen was buried at Winchester Cathedral in 1817 and the house where she wrote, revised and had published all her novels, including the timeless Pride and Prejudice is close by in Chawton. The house is open to the public and sports a museum to the writer too. There is also a memorial to Austen in the cathedral.
